Welcome to Faethless! Before you create your charries, it is important to know what you're getting yourself into. These are just a few of the Fae that you could choose from. If there is another type of faerie that you would like your character to be go ahead and put it in the application with a brief description.
Faeries In General
Faeries are known to be very tricky creatures. They come in all shape and sizes, from 41/2 inches tall to any range of human height. Faeries can take a semi-human form. This enables them to hide their wings if need be but they can't hide everything about themselves. Faeries possess very powerful magic. They can cast a wide range of spells. Not every faerie has wings. Many faeries who do not have wings appear elven like. They can be any size and often have pointed ears. A punishment for faeries may be to have their wings taken off in painful means. Faeries have been known to take human lovers, creating half-faeries half-human offspring that can either have magical powers or not it all depends on how powerful the faerie parent was. Faeries can be evil creatures but there are also very peaceful too. Some Fae are shape shifters, for instance Kelpies can turn into horses.
The Fae of the Water
Water faeries:
Water Faeries are providers of nature. Water faeries have complete control of their water environment and water is their greatest strength, land being their weakest. Water faeries are often dangerous and have a tendency to take humans lives either to eat them or they keep them alive as a form of entertainment before killing them.
Kelpies a.k.a Phookas:
Kelpies are extremely mischievous and dangerous. Kelpies are big fans of taking people for rides in their horse form and then drowning them in water. Once a Kelpie has drowned their human victim they eat them. Kelpies aren't pleasant creatures but it can be helpful to make friends with them so you don't get eaten yourself. Kelpies can take the form of a horse or a human. Because of their dangerous reputation, most Fae know better than to get on the bad side of Kelpies. They hold grudges for a very long time and often times seek revenge on anyone who has done them wrong.
Mermaids:
Mermaids can be dangerous, but most of the time their intentions are good. Mermaids are very beautiful and are always female. They are known to seduce humans to take as lovers. Any angered or upset mermaid can cause huge storms. Mermaids are only found in large bodies of water, so if you go looking for them in a small pond or river you may encounter a Fae that is less pleasant. Mermaids can only take a human form for a short period of time.
Other Fae
The Elves:
Now, the short statured elves you hear about aren't real. But there are very tall and beautiful elves. Elves are very skilled when it comes to fighting and magic. They are some of the most human looking of all Fae. Elves are stronger, faster, and more agile than humans. They can be cruel or very innocent, it just depends on the Fae's personality.
Changelings:
Changelings are faerie children that are put into the human world to replace a human child that has been taken into the faerie realm. Depending on which court or clan takes the human child decides whether the human child is taken because a faerie loves that child, wants it for a slave, etc.
Goblins & Pixies: Goblins and pixies tend to be mischievous creatures. Goblins are usually shorter than 5 feet and pixies can range from any size. Pixies have green skin and wings. Goblins and Pixies enjoy playing tricks on humans and sometimes other Fae. Although Goblins and Pixies may be small in stature they are quite tricky and can be fairly dangerous.
Protection & Other Helpful Tips
Brief Overview
Faeries cannot lie, no matter what kind of Fae they are. They are very honest creatures and have many ways to get around saying things without spilling the entire truth. In the faerie realm their are two sides, Dark & Light, the Unseelie & Seelie court. The Light or Seelie court are friendly toward humans. They don't intentionally harm humans unless there is no other way. They seek peace before war. The Unseelie court is less inclined to be nice to humans unless they want something from them. The Unseelie court is known for their acts of evil and mischief.
**humans should never eat or drink anything a fae offers them. Most of the time these drinks or items of food are laced with a spell that can either put you into a deep sleep temporarily or kill you.

Protection & Other Helpful Tips
- Faeries may be dangerous, but there are ways to protect yourself from them. The main form of protection is iron. Iron will burn a faerie's skin even if it just barely brushes them. If iron enters a faeries body it can be potentially fatal if they don't get it out right away. Iron can be in any form, knives, necklaces, swords, etc. Putting iron near your doorways, windows, and any other entrances into your home will help keep Fae out.
- Four leaf clovers, although very hard to come by, will lower a faerie's power on you if one is in your possession at the time.
- To earn a faeries trust, protection, or to just make a good impression you can leave offerings for them outside your doorstep. Faeries love any kind of sweets, for example, sweet cream, cakes, etc.
- Humans should not eat or drink any food a faerie offers them unless they absolutely know what they are ingesting. Often food and drinks are laced with magic that will either make the human hallucinate, fall into a deep sleep (permanent or temporary), or possibly kill the human.
